Interview: Jonathan Bezzina

First of all Welcome Jonathan and thanks for accepting my interview……

Jonathan, you’ve been playing for Rabat since your childhood and you’ve never played for any other club. Can you tell us how your career started off and how you started playing for the senior team?

Yes in fact I started with Rabat Depiro at the age of 9. At the beginning it was just an outing with my school friends but as I grew up I was really hooked into football and especially with Rabat Ajax. After minors I started training with the senior team and at the age of 20 I had my debut with the first team when I started with first 11 against Valletta.

Which coach during your career, do you thing helped you most to reach this level?

Of course I have to mention Ziya Yildiz he was the “maestro” in Rabat, I was still young to be regular player in the senior team but I was learning and I started to improve a lot under him.
Now we have Joe Gerada as coach and he is teaching us a lot on positioning and technical play.

So far, after playing the first games of the season and some knock out games, what do you think about the squad?

The majority of the squad is all from Rabat, so we know each other even outside the game and the team is still very young, in fact the average age of the squad is 23years. About this year, I think we have a real good chance to get promoted, but we still have to train hard and be as unite as a family.

As a team, were do you think we can finish?

As I mentioned before we are definitely one of the favorites for the promotion. We have to keep our feet on the ground and win game by game.

Which is your biggest dream, in football and also in your private life?

My last 2 seasons were very disappointing because we were relegated twice so now my biggest dream in football is to get Rabat Ajax from were they came and deserve to be. My wish is to retire in premier division with Rabat Ajax.
About my private life I wish that I can live happily with my future wife and hopefully with kids.

Any comments you’d like to add?

I would like to thank you Etienne, for giving me the opportunity to express my feelings about my football career and wishing you all the best for this site and also for your personal life.
Last but not least I would like to thank all our committee and supporters for helping us while on the pitch.

Thanks a lot Jonathon and good luck for the future!!
