Interview: Kayne Said (11th August 2007) Welcome Kayne, surely at the moment you are looking forward to start the new campaign! So Kayne this is
your third season with the senior team at the age of 21. What do you
think of this years season considering finishing in third place last
year and missed out promotion with just one point. I have been playing for
two years with the Senior team under coach Mr. Joe Gerada and I consider
myself very lucky to be part of such a great team playing with talented
players and giving my all out contribution. Personally I consider the
last two seasons quite a success. I have played in the third division
and together we gained promotion in a successful manner. I have also
played in the second division last year and considering our resources
and being our first attempt in the division we came close and missed
promotion with just one point in a very competitive league. After those
two successive years I together with the team gained the experience
necessary to challenge for this year’s second division being a
strength in our advantage. I do not believe that it will be an easy
task to accomplish, but considering our team’s talent and determination
and considering the guidance provided by our coach Mr Gerada, we can
fulfill our aim for promotion. I consider every goal in my carreer
important. But if I have to chose one, I’ll chose last year’s
goal scored against Dingli Swallows in the second round derby with a
header. All those supporters cheering. It will really remain imprinted
in my mind forever. Adam Smeir is quite a talented player
and a good friend of mine. We have really different characteristics
as strikers but we have been drawn accustomed to each other’s
play after all these years we have been playing together since childhood.
We have learned a lot from each other and it comes to us automatically
to look for each other on the field of play. I believe the more the
two strikers try to find each other during a game the more the trouble
they will cause to the defenders. And I dare say we have caused some
considerable damage in teams’ defences over the past three years.
We both have a constant urge to score and that’s good. I believe that every player in the
game of football will never achieve his full potential. He has to train
hard everyday to achieve his goals. He has to improve all aspects of
his game not just one to arrive at the top of the list. Football is
a team game and not an individual game. If the team improves holistically,
the player will improve individually. One must keep in mind that one
needs to show talent both outside and inside the pitch. Discipline,
determination and heart. Improve those attributes and you’ll improve
your field play. First of all I would like
to thank my father for being there for me from the tender age of 6 when
I started playing football. Thanks for his strong experience in football
and for his healthy advice and criticism after each and every game.
I would like to thank him for being there and for being a sort of protective
shadow over my talent pushing me never to give up, never to surrender.
Special thanks go to coach Joe Gerada for understanding my character, for believing in my capacities, attributes and talents and for pushing me to give my utmost in every game. I would also like to thank all the Rabat Ajax Committee for believing in me and special thanks go to all the supporters who really love me as a player and as a good friend. If it wasn’t for the Rabat Ajax Supporters I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Feeling your presence in every game switches something inside me that pushes me to give my utter best. Finally I would like to thank all my good friends and team players in the Rabat Ajax squad for having accepted my character and for showing their respect and friendship and for their constant help in times of need. You all have become my family. Thanks for everything. I‘ll hope to return my thanks in the field. Kayne Said
